when the going gets tough....

in the last couple of years, i've learnt in life, that most of the time, when we are down or upset or trying to handle a situation that may not be a very nice one to be in, all of us adopt the "poor me" strategy. what i've also learnt is that this doesn't take anyone too far.

it's very easy to wriggle out of those situations that way, make yourself feel like the world's out to get you and everyone's walking over you. but, hey! you know what? that's not true. i remember reading somewhere that God gives you problems only because He knows you're strong enough to handle them. i also remember reading that every problem has a gift in its hand. they come to you because you need their gifts. these things are all very easy to talk about when the going is good and life's hunky dory. but it isn't always that way now, is it?

the trick to handling these sticky situations, i think is remembering just a few things...
1. to stick by the decisions you've taken
2. to keep cool and understand where it's coming form (yes maasi, i've started doing that and you're right. it helps!)
3. that the world is not your enemy
4. trust in the Big Picture
5. and most importantly, God loves you and will never let anything bad happen to you

easier said than done, when life throws lemons at you, make lemonade. think about it though, when life throws lemons at you, it also gives you that extra energy, when you're angry to squeeze the lemons to get all the juice out and make better lemonade =D if you choose to waste all that energy crying and swearing and being upset, and waiting for the world to change or singing stop this train, it ain't helping baby!!! no one's going to listen to you cry or sit by you when you swear and your brains fry. the world isn't going to change and no one's going to pull the chain and stop the train.

when things get crazy and you get low, remember what Kipling said, yes, i know you know! but just as a reminder, recall If....the greatest inspiration when things get a little worse than just a tiff. when the world around you is falling apart and you feel like you're being hit, dart after dart....

IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

sexist he was. i know. wrote only for his son! i think he should learn a lesson or two from John Mayer....girls become lovers who turn into mothers....oops! drifting away from the point, am i? so, i was saying, when the going gets tough, hold your head high and keep walking. unperturbed. strong and confident. not the doormat! for what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger, and you're alive and kicking, aren't you?
